Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam)

 

A good spreading tree with a rounded shape and striking grey trunk. The green leaves have a slightly crimped look and they turn yellow and orange in autumn. Makes a very good hedging plant and thrives on heavy, wet soil.
Height 25m (82ft), Spread 20m (66ft) in 20 years.
