A bushy, clump-forming, tuberous perennial with toothed, pinnate, dark green leaves and, in summer and autumn, upright stems bearing double, dark maroon flowers with narrow, pointed petals.
Height 1.2m (4ft), Spread 60cm (2ft), 1-2 years to maturity.
