A bushy, clump-forming, tuberous perennial with toothed, pinnate, purple- to black-flushed, dark green leaves and, from midsummer to early autumn, single, red flowers with orange-yellow centres.
Height 1m (3ft), Spread 60cm (2ft), 1-2 years to maturity.
