Trachycarpus fortunei (Windmill Palm)

A hardy, evergreen tree palm with a hairy, sturdy trunk and an array of fan-shaped leaves, each deeply divided into long, slender, splayed out fingers. It starts off with huge leaves spread out near ground level, then gradually hoists itself up on its hairy trunk, shedding old leaves as it ascends. Very small yellow flowers.
Height 15m (49ft), Spread 2.5m (8ft), 20-50 years to maturity.
