A dense, bushy, conical, slow-growing, evergreen shrub or small tree with red-stalked, elliptic, glossy, dark green leaves and cup-shaped, fragrant, white flowers in early summer followed by cherry-like, red fruit that ripens black.
Height 6m (20ft), Spread 3m (10ft), 20-50 years to maturity.
