Syringa vulgaris 'Souvenir de Louis Spaeth'

 

A spreading, deciduous shrub or small tree, upright when young, with heart-shaped, dark green leaves and slender, dense panicles of single, fragrant, dark reddish-purple flowers in late spring and early summer. Consistently reliable, very good for attracting butterflies.
Height & Spread 4m (13ft), 10-20 years to maturity.
