Quercus petraea (Sessile Oak)

 

A large, broad, rounded to spreading, deciduous tree with ridged, grey bark and yellow-stalked, leathery, ovate or oblong, lobed, dark green leaves turning orange-brown in autumn. Insignificant dull yellow flowers in spring are followed by stalkless, oblong to ovoid, brown acorns, borne singly or in clusters in autumn.
Height 30m (98ft), Spread 20m (66ft), 20-50 years to maturity.
