A vigorous, spreading, deciduous tree of a conical habit with brown or grey-pink stems bearing lance-shaped, toothed, pointed, silky, dull green leaves, hairy when young and blue-green beneath. Yellow-green female catkins and yellow male catkins bloom in spring as the leaves emerge.
Height 25m (82ft), Spread 10m (30ft), 20-50 years to maturity.
