Aesculus hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut/Conker Tree)

A large, deciduous, bell shaped tree with large leaves that are divided into finger-like leaflets which turn brown in autumn and tend to fall quite early. In spring white candle-like flowers with a yellow then red blotch are produced on its branches. In the autumn, conkers form in prickly outer casings. Possibly the most beautiful of large flowering trees hardy in the British Isles.
