A compact, bushy, semi-evergreen shrub with reddish-brown branches, oval, glossy, dark green leaves, turning red and purple in autumn, and, in spring, pendent, terminal racemes of cylindrical, bright pink flowers, fading to white with age, are followed by small to medium, edible, dark blue fruit ready for harvest in early summer.
