Berberis darwinii (Darwin's Barberry)

 

Evergreen. This early-flowering species is one of the finest of all flowering shrubs. Leaves three-pointed, dark shining green above. Flowers bright orange tinged red, in drooping clusters, borne over a long period in spring followed by blue berries in autumn. Thrives in sun or shade and in almost any soil that is not water-logged.
Height & Spread 2.5m (8ft), 10-20 years to maturity.
