Alnus cordata (Italian Alder)

 

A dense, fast-growing deciduous tree with glossy bright green leaves. Yellow-brown catkins in spring before the leaves appear, followed in autumn by large false cones. Ideal for wet situations and thrives on chalk soils.
Height 24m (79ft), Spread 8m (26ft), 20-50 years to maturity.
