A rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial with large, pinnate or palmate, wrinkled, veined, glossy leaves, brown when young, turning bronze-flushed, dark green in summer, and brown-green in autumn. In summer, tall, erect, red-flushed stems bear dense panicles of small, star-shaped, pale pink flowers that turn deep red with age.
Height 1m (3ft), Spread 75cm (2.5ft), 2-5 years to maturity.
