An upright, bushy, clump-forming, tuberous perennial with toothed, pinnate, dark green leaves and, from midsummer into autumn, strong, upright stems bearing single, lightly fragrant, star-shaped, dark maroon flowers with rolled petals and golden-yellow centres.
Height 75cm (2.5ft), Spread 50cm (1.5ft), 1-2 years to maturity.
