Lavandula stoechas 'Papillon' (French Lavender)

 

syn. Lavandula pedunculata subsp. Pedunculata
A compact, frost hardy, evergreen shrub with wonderful, tasselled, erect heads of purple flowers that appear all summer, from June to August. This subspecies has shorter flowering spikes than the species and vertically held, aromatic, narrow, grey-green foliage. The crushed foliage has a slightly different aroma to the straight lavender forms, with touches of eau de cologne fragrance.
