An herbaceous perennial with heavily veined, oblong leaves forming a basal rosette. In early to mid-summer, it produces a single red-tipped, violet flower spike held on an upright stem.
Height 50cm (1.5ft), Spread 30cm (1ft), 2-5 years to maturity.
