An upright, bushy, herbaceous perennial with dark green leaves divided into nine elliptic or lance-shaped leaflets and, from late spring into summer, strong, erect stems bearing large, cup-shaped, richly fragrant, single, deep red flowers with yellow stamens.
Height 1m (3ft), Spread 75cm (2.5ft), 2-5 years to maturity.
