Acer rubrum (Red Maple)

A rounded, deciduous tree with ovate, lobed, dark green leaves, pale blue-white beneath and turning bright red in autumn. Erect clusters of tiny, red flowers bloom in spring. Although fairly lime-tolerant, it rarely colours well on chalky soils.
Height 20m (66ft), Spread 10m (32ft), 20-50 years to maturity.
