A large, deciduous shrub with tiered, wide-spreading branches bearing ovate, deeply veined, dark green leaves turning red and purple in autumn and, in late spring and early summer, large, flat, lacecap-like clusters of fragrant, white flowers followed by red fruit maturing to black.
Height 3m (10ft), Spread 4m (13ft), 10-20 years to maturity.
