An aromatic perennial with linear, grey-green leaves, hollow stems bearing umbels of bell-shaped, white flowers and an ovoid bulb comprised of edible bulblets enclosed in a papery, purple-striped white sheath.
Height 50cm (1.5ft), Spread 20cm (8in), 2-5 years to maturity.
